O'Connor The Maverick Cop from Blue Shift on Vimeo.
Made by Ryan Kearney, Darren Campbell And Luke Clarke. Lower 6th Media Studies Rathmore Grammar School.
O'Connor the Maverick Cop gets the bad guys, unfortunately he can be somewhat destructive in the process and must face the consequences.
Our Storyboards
These are the storyboards we drew up for our main coursework piece. If we change the 1st draft plot a secondary storyboard will be drawn up to match.

Our new Vimeo account is now up and running. We preferred to use Vimeo as there is much better video quality available. Overall it looks a lot better than You Tube and the majority of feedback given on videos is some what more constructive and based on a more professional level.

Enigma & How We Establish The Opening
From the start, we establish a mysterious character who has undergone dramatic unknown events. It will cause viewers to ask important questions about how the character found himself in such an unorthodox situation. Through Close-ups of the protagonist's face we hope to show emotions of slight remorse with a sadistic overtone, which poses questions about the nature of the character. The final scenes of our opening such as the tearing up of the picture and narrative create an enigma for the remaining of the movie. Such as how is he planning to hunt down the man, how will he get revenge and also what is the personalty and mindset of the man he is hunting.
Overall Plan For Our Video
Our overall plot is of the drama genre. It is about an accidental murder, provoked by an unfaithful wife which eventually ends in excessive remorse on the murderers part to the point where his life bleakly ends due to a harsh suicide.

Changes
After gathering inspiration from movies and opinions from people outside of our classroom we came to the conclusion that our piece lacks personality and is rather bland. For this reason we have slightly adapted our video making it more exciting while retaining the artistic/dramatic scenes and shots shown in the second draft.
Some of the changes are subtle such as extending the flashback sequence and expressions of the protagonist. The most major change is the addition of a narrative, which if done correctly should allow whoever viewing to experience how it feels to be in the main characters position, separating him from all of the brutal serial killers depicted in today's cinema. The soundtrack will still be used, but during lines of narrative will be reduced in volume.
Further Changes
After editing the initial minute of our piece we realized that that the narrative was unsuitable and rather unconvincing. Along with the disposal of the narrative we have decided to film the killing scene using a shorter but more complex technique, using several short but quick flashes of the scene as to keep the viewer interested.

Flashback: White noise, cannot hear characters. Mid-shot. The two characters are sitting on a sofa watching television. The man is tapping furiously, showing how tense he is. All of a sudden he confronts the girl waving the pictures in her face and pushes her against a wall. He walks and grabs a fire poker. He swings it as he progresses towards her and cuts her neck although the wound is far from fatal. She slides down the wall crying and attempts to hold on to his leg, however he shrugs her off. Through shadows, we see the man repeatedly striking her with the weapon. The next shot is a close up of his now blood stained face. He stands over her and then drops the poker. He walks over her and returns to watching television, with her dead body still in frame.
Shot 5: Shows the man dragging the girls body, shot from behind the characters. Pans downwards from the protagonists head. You can eventually see a full shot of the girl getting dragged through the forest, you can see the tracks of her dragging feet in the forest floor.

Glitch Mob Between Two Points ft Swan
This is the music we are planning to use in our film because of its modern indie sound and we also think we could match it with the events happening in the video very well.

Research Into Videos
Eskmo - Cloudlight (Official Video) from mc707 on Vimeo.
The scenic shots and time lapses of the clouds moving in the sky really work well with the overall tone of this music video, which is something we would like to portray in our finished piece, mixing nature with the harsh realities of modern culture.
The video and music are also very well matched according to the tempo of the song and the events which take place, both are slow and peaceful with darker undertones, for example the blood on his hands. This is something we will aim to do successfully while editing our main coursework
summer. from gnarly bay productions, Inc. on Vimeo.
Time Lapses are used effectively at the beginning of this film to show time moving from day to day and eventually season to season. Not only is the viewer completely aware of this time change, but it also looks very professional and well done. We will attempt to emulate such a technique in the filming of our final piece as to make our coursework look well made and to successfully signal changes in time
Lonely Robot from Johannes Greve Muskat on Vimeo.
The makers of this music video have chosen to film this video at night for various reasons, similar to the reasons why we want to shoot our film at night and in the early morning. The darkness is used in 'Lonely Robot' to emphasise the fact that the robot is isolated. This could be useful information that we could apply to our film, because our protagonist is also lonely after losing his wife. The darkness and confinement given by the time of day and surrounding trees emphasise his loneliness, and help to make our turn of events at the end seem more apparent. Also at the same time they make it easier to show empathic concern for the protagonist.
Mouth's Cradle - Demon from Johannes Greve Muskat on Vimeo.
This is a video we found after writing our plot which is very similar to the outline of our story. The main character in this music video murders his friend and as a result, faces the harsh consequences of loneliness and begins to see why he needed his friend, he cannot cope without him. In his anger and helplessness he destroys his home, cries with remorse and eventually takes his own life as he sees no reason for living on. This video in particular has helped us finely adjust our story as to make it more interesting and understandable. It was an outstanding example of how to display remorse on camera and also showed us how to use focus pulls effectively.
Death from Young & Direct Entertainment on Vimeo.
This clip shows a lone tree surrounded by decay and waste. The video is supposed to symbolise death but in my opinion makes a stronger statement about isolation than death. It has influenced us to attempt to find a tree similar to the one shown in the video so that the tree in the wilderness will run parallel with him alone in the world.
Fall Into the Sky - Shannon Lloyd from Benjamin Dowie on Vimeo
The shots at 00:10 and changing at 00:12 in this video give an idea of how a part of our video is going to be done.
Hojas/Leaves (shortfilm) from Pablo Olmos Arrayales on Vimeo.
Hope Lights from Salomon on Vimeo.
The opening shots of this show how we aim to depict our killing scene with very short but fast flashes of footage. We feel that this technique will tell the story of the killing scene without the risk of boring the viewer and it also leaves some parts to the viewers imagination, perhaps giving them the chance to create the blanks in their minds in ways we couldn't.
